What type of farmers are you?
We are sustainable farmers.
We are incredibly interested in developing the health of our soil which in turn produces more nutritious and more delicious vegetables for your consumption. We incorporate compost and organic matter into our fields to balance the soil content and encourage the vitality of that ecosystem.
We encourage pollinators and other beneficial insects by providing them natural habitat areas. These creatures are vital to the health and production of our plants and also function as nature’s pest control force.
We use natural growing practices for a number of our vegetables whenever possible. We are farmers who are purposefully conscientious about our environment including our role in and impact on it.
We use "people-powered" tools and small machines as often as we can. We do have a tractor for the larger planting projects but use walk-behind planters most of the time. These can be operated by just about anyone and allow us to easily plant just a few rows at a time. We also use small tillers and "old-school" hand tools such as hoes for weeding. We use a golf cart and ATV with a trailer for hauling in addition to the feet and bucket-in-hand method. And we have our own dragon! That's right...well, she's really a drangen: a European designed crawling machine that we use for ergonomically correct planting and weeding.
